Our history, mission, and the people who make Nortex dance thrive
The Nortex Square and Round Dance Association was established to serve the square and round dance communities of North Texas. We are a volunteer-driven organization bringing together individual dancers, clubs, callers, and cuers under one collaborative umbrella.
Our region covers an expansive area of North Texas, encompassing numerous counties and dozens of member clubs. Whether you are an experienced dancer or someone who has never stepped foot on a dance floor, Nortex has a place for you.
"Our mission is to promote, preserve, and grow the traditions of square and round dancing in North Texas through education, community events, and a spirit of lasting friendship."
Dating back to the mid-twentieth century, the North Texas dance community has always been a vibrant part of local culture. The Nortex Association was formally organized to coordinate the growing number of clubs and dancers who needed a regional body to help plan large events, issue educational materials, and maintain the high standards of the dance community.
Over the decades, the association has grown to host landmark events such as the annual Round-Up, which draws participants from across Texas and beyond. These gatherings celebrate the joy of social dance and help pass the tradition to younger generations.
Nortex provides member clubs with practical support including event listings, educational resources, and the Promenade newsletter that keeps everyone informed. We also recognize outstanding members through our Friendship Awards program, celebrating those who go above and beyond to welcome new dancers.
We believe that dancing is more than movement — it is a way to forge friendships, stay active, and keep a cherished cultural tradition alive for future generations of Texans.
